Gobble gobble! Her sandwich was Sunbutter, granola, and strawberry jelly on a bagel thin. To make it look like a turkey I used Sunbutter to attach a Ritz cracker and candy corn to the bagel. For the eyes I took a mini marshmallow and cut it in half. I then added a dot of black gel food coloring with a toothpick to make them look like eyes. The beak is made from cheddar cheese and the wattle is cut from a piece of pepperoni. I also packed some tomato slices, raw broccoli, Cheez-It's, corn on a piece of lettuce, and some yogurt covered raisins.<br />

Native American shaped turkey and miracle whip sandwich. I used cheese for the hair, a mini marshmallow for the eyes, and fruit leather to make the mouth and headband. <a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-lwpjQ7Fz4Is/VG4Go-7-1yI/AAAAAAAACPQ/IjL5xTMimto/s1600/RiseInvitation%2Bblog.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-lwpjQ7Fz4Is/VG4Go-7-1yI/AAAAAAAACPQ/IjL5xTMimto/s1600/RiseInvitation%2Bblog.jpg" height="640" width="426" /></a></div>
My daughters favorite movie is Rise of the Guardians so of course this is what she wanted the theme of her birthday party to be. To make her invitation I used Algerian Extra-Condensed font, Perpetua Bold Italic font, Century Schoolbook font, and Constantine font. I made my own ticket mask to get the shape of her invitation.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-i8TAh4YLyLU/VG4GlKGvvRI/AAAAAAAACOA/JuvJnsnNljY/s1600/DSC_0555%2Bblog.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-i8TAh4YLyLU/VG4GlKGvvRI/AAAAAAAACOA/JuvJnsnNljY/s1600/DSC_0555%2Bblog.JPG" height="640" width="425" /></a></div>
Her cake and cupcakes are vanilla, buttercream frosting, and fondant snowflakes. The rings I found on Etsy at <a href="https://www.etsy.com/shop/ABirthdayPlace">A Birthday Place</a> shop. This was the first time I've ever worked with fondant and found it to be pretty fun. I got the <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Longzang-3-Piece-Decorating-Fondant-Embossing/dp/B00KVBL0CA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1416497550&sr=8-1&keywords=snowflake+cutters">snowflake stamp cutters</a> on Amazon. They were really easy to use but I found that the small one seemed to leave little strings of thin fondant. I let them air dry for a few hours and was able to knock off those strings without damaging the snowflakes.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-F9hyOmVErSk/VG4Gl9Z4GRI/AAAAAAAACOM/jqpl2-CVspA/s1600/DSC_0548%2Bblog.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-F9hyOmVErSk/VG4Gl9Z4GRI/AAAAAAAACOM/jqpl2-CVspA/s1600/DSC_0548%2Bblog.JPG" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
I made some super yummy Jack Frost cookies that I found on <a href="http://www.jollytomato.com/">The Jolly Tomato</a> blog. These were a huge hit and very easy to make.You can get the recipe <a href="http://www.jollytomato.com/2012/11/29/magical-jack-frost-cookies/">here</a>.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-36fjzN_0wdg/VG4GmlzH6QI/AAAAAAAACOc/yCKfkhdg0fY/s1600/DSC_0569%2Bblog.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-36fjzN_0wdg/VG4GmlzH6QI/AAAAAAAACOc/yCKfkhdg0fY/s1600/DSC_0569%2Bblog.JPG" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
I wanted an activity for each Guardian. I found <a href="http://www.orientaltrading.com/blue-magic-color-scratch-snowflake-christmas-ornaments-a2-48_4748.fltr?Ntt=scratch%20art%20snowflakes">scratch art snowflakes</a> at Oriental Trading and knew they would be perfect for the Jack Frost activity.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-u55KYLK27UE/VG4GnGR5gVI/AAAAAAAACOo/nnK3j4gLF3E/s1600/DSC_0572%2Bblog.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-u55KYLK27UE/VG4GnGR5gVI/AAAAAAAACOo/nnK3j4gLF3E/s1600/DSC_0572%2Bblog.JPG" height="426" width="640" /></a>
</div>
For North's activity the kiddos decorated homemade sugar cookies that my Mother-in-law made. They weren't on the table yet because I wanted the kids to eat lunch before doing this activity ;)<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-DjlthG2hanw/VG4GmIwC51I/AAAAAAAACOU/Jrk89y9djWs/s1600/DSC_0566%2Bweb.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-DjlthG2hanw/VG4GmIwC51I/AAAAAAAACOU/Jrk89y9djWs/s1600/DSC_0566%2Bweb.JPG" height="640" width="426" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ztba7GVMVDE/VG4GnbnUv3I/AAAAAAAACOs/CRgM-qUVNhI/s1600/DSC_0581%2Bblog.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ztba7GVMVDE/VG4GnbnUv3I/AAAAAAAACOs/CRgM-qUVNhI/s1600/DSC_0581%2Bblog.JPG" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
Sandy's activity was sculpting good dreams with <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Waba-Fun-Kinetic-Sand-2-2lbs/dp/B00CO5AQ12/ref=sr_1_2?s=toys-and-games&ie=UTF8&qid=1416499981&sr=1-2&keywords=kinetic+sand">kinetic sand</a>. Have you ever played with it before? It is so amazing and fun. We love this stuff! I put two boxes in our sand table.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-VtksNPnnGT4/VG4GnwzwcvI/AAAAAAAACO0/259I5-LIsFc/s1600/DSC_0597%2Bblog.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-VtksNPnnGT4/VG4GnwzwcvI/AAAAAAAACO0/259I5-LIsFc/s1600/DSC_0597%2Bblog.JPG" height="640" width="426" /></a></div>
The biggest hit was Bunny's activity, which was an egg hunt! I glued a picture of the Guardians to a medium sized gift bag for the kiddos to fill with their finds.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-gLN4ECbXdJY/VG4Glc5QmRI/AAAAAAAACOE/z5x1uxYxlus/s1600/DSC_0527%2Bblog.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-gLN4ECbXdJY/VG4Glc5QmRI/AAAAAAAACOE/z5x1uxYxlus/s1600/DSC_0527%2Bblog.JPG" height="640" width="426" /></a></div>
Last activity was Tooth's. I had the kids help Tooth by throwing <a href="http://www.orientaltrading.com/tooth-erasers-a2-9_1050.fltr?Ntt=teeth">teeth shaped erasers</a> that I purchased from Oriental Trading into "canisters" for prizes. I wish I remembered to take a picture before we started the game...lol. I really had grand plans for this but ran out of crafting time. There was supposed to be gold canisters that looked like they did in the movie and more decorations around the game. Oh well, the kids still loved it.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-KknlmlT94VQ/VG4GorHk8jI/AAAAAAAACPE/eZproizK1DE/s1600/DSC_0650%2Bblog.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-KknlmlT94VQ/VG4GorHk8jI/AAAAAAAACPE/eZproizK1DE/s1600/DSC_0650%2Bblog.JPG" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
For a really easy decoration I sprayed a can of fake snow on our glass doors and copied the pictures Jack Frost drew to keep Jamie believing in Bunny.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-KFrxrOlZBO4/VG4GoIYPW-I/AAAAAAAACO8/JOjG_0KjCMg/s1600/DSC_0645%2Bblog.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-KFrxrOlZBO4/VG4GoIYPW-I/AAAAAAAACO8/JOjG_0KjCMg/s1600/DSC_0645%2Bblog.JPG" height="640" width="426" /></a></div>

I had always meant to post the blank invitation and food label cards. Well here they finally are! It's only a year later ;)<br />
<br />
You can download the full 300 dpi resolution <a href="https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0Bzw0mlUMRwQebGpBbEhKMlUtc00&usp=sharing">here</a>.<br />

<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-TrHZRpALWV4/VDVM8gR_rwI/AAAAAAAACIU/0aCAf7rHhU0/s1600/9-30%2Bblog.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-TrHZRpALWV4/VDVM8gR_rwI/AAAAAAAACIU/0aCAf7rHhU0/s1600/9-30%2Bblog.JPG" height="440" width="640" /></a></div>
Fall lunch! Leaf shaped bologna and ketchup sandwich (my kid loves Boar's Head bologna), apple with a leaf cutout, multicolored sweet peppers cut into fall leaves, wheat thins and a couple of Cheez-Its, and peanut-free chocolate chips.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-CMk2K9GXox8/VDVM7PPil7I/AAAAAAAACH4/X_J2juxASQY/s1600/10-1%2Bblog.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-CMk2K9GXox8/VDVM7PPil7I/AAAAAAAACH4/X_J2juxASQY/s1600/10-1%2Bblog.JPG" height="448" width="640" /></a></div>
Pumpkin shaped sandwich that is made with bologna, ketchup, and slice of cheddar cheese on top. I rolled the leftover bologna from the cutout pumpkin and put it on a pick. Cut strawberries, yogurt squeeze, Skittles, and for the "pumpkin" cherry tomatoes I just put a piece of toothpick in the tomato to hold on the green bean. Puppy dog roast beef and cheddar sandwich. I used a food markers to draw on the eye and collar. I didn't want to throw away the scraps from cutting out the sandwich so I used them to make a meat and cheese skewer. The flowers are yellow squash and i sliced up a red sweet pepper. She also had peaches, yogurt squeeze, and Florida Natural organic gummy nuggets.<br />

We went with a <a href="http://www.planetbox.com/products/rover">PlanetBox Rover</a> for her lunchbox. So far I love it! It makes it really easy to plan and pack her lunches.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Q6Ejm_U_xo0/VAdURsVGznI/AAAAAAAAB_g/gEOVGC4Ocmg/s1600/Minion%2Bblog2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Q6Ejm_U_xo0/VAdURsVGznI/AAAAAAAAB_g/gEOVGC4Ocmg/s1600/Minion%2Bblog2.JPG" height="462" width="640" /></a></div>
I found these cute Minion shaped graham crackers from Honey Maid. To make her sandwich I just cut it and a piece of cheddar cheese into the shape of a Minion head. On a slice of provolone cheese I cut a strip with a knife and a circle with a cookie cutter. I laid the pieces where I wanted them and trimmed the strip to fit. To draw on the face I used a <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Wilton-Writer-Edible-Color-Markers/dp/B0001XXB02/ref=pd_sim_sbs_k_3?ie=UTF8&refRID=18BHPF54FPY6A6HXFA97">Wilton Food Writer</a> marker in black.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-JQmpWcyBpKU/VAdURfVJiBI/AAAAAAAAB_c/ZKfjRq28b34/s1600/fairy%2Bb2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-JQmpWcyBpKU/VAdURfVJiBI/AAAAAAAAB_c/ZKfjRq28b34/s1600/fairy%2Bb2.jpg" height="462" width="640" /></a></div>
I carved the wax on a Babybel cheese to make a ladybug. To get perfect circles I used a hard straw from a plastic tumblers to cut the wax. I used heart picks that I got from the Dollar Tree to make her "fairy wands". I just put on a couple of grapes and then a piece of flower shaped honeydew melon to make the wands. She also had sunbutter, jelly, and granola on a bagel thin. For her treat I gave her some nut free chocolate chips :) <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-IA5CXMnikj8/VAdURvtPxvI/AAAAAAAAB_k/Va_m908Fawc/s1600/fish%2Bb2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-IA5CXMnikj8/VAdURvtPxvI/AAAAAAAAB_k/Va_m908Fawc/s1600/fish%2Bb2.jpg" height="462" width="640" /></a></div>
For the green balls I just used a melon baller on honeydew melon. I bought these super cute and easy to use <a href="http://www.amazon.com/APT%C2%AE-plate-Heart-Rabbit-Shape/dp/B00ENZLB92/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1409761866&sr=8-1&keywords=egg+molds">egg molds</a> on Amazon. You just pop a warm hard boiled egg into the mold, close it, and stick it in the fridge until you need the egg. I found that an extra large egg worked pretty good in the fish mold but some egg did squeeze out the sides. I just cut off the extra and they looked adorable.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-j3iR0YVeRsY/VAdUSfaJY2I/AAAAAAAAB_s/4lOFwPVhK-g/s1600/lunchable%2Bb2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-j3iR0YVeRsY/VAdUSfaJY2I/AAAAAAAAB_s/4lOFwPVhK-g/s1600/lunchable%2Bb2.jpg" height="462" width="640" /></a></div>
I made her a homemade lunchable. I had the deli slice my Boars Head ham thick. When I got home I used a circle cookie cutter on the ham and sliced cheese. For her treat I gave her some mini marshmallows.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-RnRu0kee7WU/VAdUSpzMwtI/AAAAAAAAB_w/FsYbMWzQD9I/s1600/princess%2Bb2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-RnRu0kee7WU/VAdUSpzMwtI/AAAAAAAAB_w/FsYbMWzQD9I/s1600/princess%2Bb2.jpg" height="462" width="640" /></a></div>
Sorry for the horrible photo. This was her lunch from the first day of school. I was in a big rush and didn't realize how blurry this photo was. (I have a Samsung Galaxy S4 phone and feel that it takes awful photos). Anyway, the white hearts are a hard boiled egg cut in half. I used my new eggs molds that I talked about on the fish lunch. You have to use extra large eggs to fill the heart mold.<br />

I used a really sharp knife to cut out her bangs. After I took the rest of the wax wrapper off I sliced it into long strips and braided it to make her pigtails. I also cut out a mouth with the left over wax. I used a small sliver of provolone cheese to make the white strip in her hair. I pressed the cheese and the top of the braids into the wax of her bangs to get them to hold on. I really wanted her to have blue eyes but I didn't have a blue colored food marker so I had to improvise with a tiny piece of broccoli pressed into the cheese. I used broccoli to wedge the cheese into her lunchbox so that it wouldn't move around that much.

<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-MXb5c4Tat-I/VAUvD5qMMgI/AAAAAAAAB50/0gJR-dQOyOM/s1600/HulaSkirtStep5%2Bblog.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-MXb5c4Tat-I/VAUvD5qMMgI/AAAAAAAAB50/0gJR-dQOyOM/s1600/HulaSkirtStep5%2Bblog.JPG" /></a></div>
For our daughters third birthday we decided to go with a luau theme. I was so excited to find lots of awesome and cheap supplies at the Dollar Tree. My favorite find was green fabric hula skirts and colorful leis. To make the skirts more fun I sewed on some flowers from the leis. It was super easy and cheap!
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-QQo0qD9YGZQ/VAUvDc8KgVI/AAAAAAAAB5s/kH5FaeB7SFY/s1600/HulaSkirtStep1%2Bblog.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-QQo0qD9YGZQ/VAUvDc8KgVI/AAAAAAAAB5s/kH5FaeB7SFY/s1600/HulaSkirtStep1%2Bblog.JPG" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
Here are the supplies you will need. Hula skirts, silk flowers, pins, sewing machine (you could do this by hand but that would take forever!), thread, and scissors.
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-MvY6WjUl8AQ/VAUvC9LPwCI/AAAAAAAAB5k/SU3uBjelOI8/s1600/HulaSkirtStep2%2Bblog.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-MvY6WjUl8AQ/VAUvC9LPwCI/AAAAAAAAB5k/SU3uBjelOI8/s1600/HulaSkirtStep2%2Bblog.JPG" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
I took apart the leis and used the silk flowers to pin to the top band of the skirt. These hula skirts have a drawstring so I made sure before pinning that the drawstring was at the top of the pocket band. Pin all the flowers in place. I used two per pin.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-WCaSlzScP8E/VAUvCn0zG7I/AAAAAAAAB5g/SULcEjN1BhY/s1600/HulaSkirtStep3%2Bblog.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-WCaSlzScP8E/VAUvCn0zG7I/AAAAAAAAB5g/SULcEjN1BhY/s1600/HulaSkirtStep3%2Bblog.JPG" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
I just sewed back and forth a couple of times over each flower center. Don't cut your threads but just lift your presser foot and move onto the next flower. Continue until they are all done!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-sUBbxDLlo4I/VAUvDmegtJI/AAAAAAAAB5w/E1K_3MLXDkI/s1600/HulaSkirtStep4%2Bblog.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-sUBbxDLlo4I/VAUvDmegtJI/AAAAAAAAB5w/E1K_3MLXDkI/s1600/HulaSkirtStep4%2Bblog.JPG" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
After your finished just cut your threads. Super simple :)<br />
<br />
P.S. Sorry for the bad pictures. I was working at night.<br />

I thought it would be fun to crochet her a unicorn hat that she could still wear in the winter. I found an awesome and free <a href="http://www.repeatcrafterme.com/2013/10/crochet-unicorn-hat-pattern.html">crochet unicorn hat pattern</a> over at <a href="http://www.repeatcrafterme.com/">Repeat Crafter Me blog</a>. Actually I found a lot of awesome crochet patterns on her blog!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-qx2aHAWcyHY/VACSNo7QmuI/AAAAAAAAB4M/3XKZz20euCM/s1600/UnicornHat1blog2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-qx2aHAWcyHY/VACSNo7QmuI/AAAAAAAAB4M/3XKZz20euCM/s1600/UnicornHat1blog2.jpg" /></a></div>
I wanted ears that were more pointed and had pink on the inside so that it would tie in the pink trim that my daughter wanted. I started by making kitty ears from this <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1vK1eW86kKU">video tutorial</a>. When I was finished I just folded them in half and sewed the bottoms together to make them look more like horse ears.<br />
<br />
I used the bow from this adorable <a href="http://crochetincolor.blogspot.com/2012/03/hello-kitty-hat-pattern.html">Hello Kitty hat pattern</a>.<br />

I got into a total creative rut and blogging just became too stressful. After a long time away I feel much better. I have even started to crochet again, thrown my youngest her 3rd birthday party, started making cute lunches again, and our oldest daughter has started kindergarten!<br />
<br />Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16252251716002557014noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7679901977157180997.post-37409237148705049082014-02-27T15:14:00.000-05:002014-02-28T14:12:10.343-05:00Rainbow Swirl Pancakes<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-3S0Apkzn8Vs/Uw-Ye8bqx-I/AAAAAAAABqI/LNDBJnlXROI/s1600/rainbowpancakes.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-3S0Apkzn8Vs/Uw-Ye8bqx-I/AAAAAAAABqI/LNDBJnlXROI/s1600/rainbowpancakes.jpg" height="640" width="640" /></a></div>
My girls have been begging me to make pancakes so I thought fun rainbow ones would be fitting :) <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-A_9ajnCIDYA/Uw-Ye8_fGhI/AAAAAAAABqA/pXogKvOjYxY/s1600/rainbowbatter.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-A_9ajnCIDYA/Uw-Ye8_fGhI/AAAAAAAABqA/pXogKvOjYxY/s1600/rainbowbatter.JPG" height="428" width="640" /></a></div>
I was lazy so I used a box mix. I followed the directions to make 6 to 8 pancakes. For the coloring I used McCormick Neon liquid food coloring. I found that two drops of each color was the perfect amount. Use a butter knife to gently swirl the colors until it looks like the above picture. Now the batter is ready to use!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-WfoFU2AtZhk/Uw-YffpqnUI/AAAAAAAABqQ/NaaVQVCx720/s1600/rainbowpankcake+smblog.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-WfoFU2AtZhk/Uw-YffpqnUI/AAAAAAAABqQ/NaaVQVCx720/s1600/rainbowpankcake+smblog.JPG" height="428" width="640" /></a></div>
I love how vibrant the colors turned out. Both girls were very excited to eat these and I ended up wishing that I had made a double batch. They ended up eating most of mine! <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-FJrPO7kNQIw/UwtuNcig1hI/AAAAAAAABoI/Va6W4RMG4SA/s1600/st+paddy+lunches.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-FJrPO7kNQIw/UwtuNcig1hI/AAAAAAAABoI/Va6W4RMG4SA/s1600/st+paddy+lunches.jpg" /></a>
Here are two easy to make St. Paddy day lunches for the kiddos :)
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-doWJLIuariM/UwtoNgh46DI/AAAAAAAABng/HEVcY_xi9N8/s1600/ShamrockPizzas.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-doWJLIuariM/UwtoNgh46DI/AAAAAAAABng/HEVcY_xi9N8/s1600/ShamrockPizzas.JPG" height="640" width="640" /></a></div>
These super fast and easy shamrock pizzas are a lot of fun for the
kiddos to help make. Use an english muffin sliced in half for the pizza
base. You can let the kids spread on the jarred pizza sauce and sprinkle
on the shredded cheese. Top them with a slice of green bell pepper and
put them in the toaster oven (or oven) on 350 for about 10 minutes or
until the cheese is melted and bubbly. <br />
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-TGPfx6hNenM/UwtWd_uV1HI/AAAAAAAABnA/xDDkumwgKcE/s1600/DSC_0034+2blog.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-TGPfx6hNenM/UwtWd_uV1HI/AAAAAAAABnA/xDDkumwgKcE/s1600/DSC_0034+2blog.JPG" height="640" width="640" /></a>I came across an adorable leprechaun sandwich on <a href="http://snacksandstories.blogspot.com/2012/03/leprechaun-sandwich.html">Snacks and Stories blog</a> and just had to make a similar one. I would have liked the carrots used for the hair and beard cut finer but didn't feel like digging out my grater. The hat is made from the bottom bump of a green bell pepper. The nose is a tip of a strawberry and the eyes and hat buckle are raisins.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I used a heart cutter to make the shamrock leaves. To decorate them I used <a href="http://www.wilton.com/store/site/product.cfm?id=2A75C1FB-423B-522D-FAD4870D1F834828&killnav=1">Wilton's Sparkle Gel</a> in Light Green. The stem is a piece of green pepper and the grass is lima beans.<br />

<div style="text-align: center;">
Grilled cheese with heart strawberries. I just sliced the strawberry in half and cut a v in the top. If your OCD like me then you could also round the tops of the strawberries with a knife.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-hnRdQ8uJ8Ws/Uv6WGLNthqI/AAAAAAAABmU/CezitjixG-c/s1600/DSC_1226+blog.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-hnRdQ8uJ8Ws/Uv6WGLNthqI/AAAAAAAABmU/CezitjixG-c/s1600/DSC_1226+blog.JPG" height="640" title="Heart Tomatoes" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I found cute little heart picks at the Dollar Tree and thought they looked kinda like arrows. If you want a tutorial on how to make the grape tomato hearts then head over to <a href="http://www.thepinjunkie.com/2014/02/how-to-make-tomatoes-look-like-hearts.html">The Pin Junkie</a>.<br />

Today I came across fizzy hearts over at <a href="http://b-inspiredmama.com/2014/01/fizzy-hearts-science-for-kids/">B-Inspired Mama</a> and thought it would be a good way to occupy a cranky preschooler. We love playing with baking soda and vinegar so I knew it would be a hit. It only took a few minutes to set up and the mess wasn't too bad.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-KEjHFviDpYE/UvvySjSRn1I/AAAAAAAABl8/yol-SRyeq6o/s1600/DSC_1137+blog.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-KEjHFviDpYE/UvvySjSRn1I/AAAAAAAABl8/yol-SRyeq6o/s1600/DSC_1137+blog.JPG" height="640" width="428" /></a></div>
Of course we eventually had to add the vinegar to the baking dish and turn it into sensory fun. We both have pink hands! For a half hour I got smiles and giggles. She wants to do it again tomorrow.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16252251716002557014noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7679901977157180997.post-43356167723634687792014-02-12T12:29:00.000-05:002014-02-28T14:12:56.582-05:00Homemade Kids Valentines<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Remember those <a href="http://www.appetizerforacraftymind.blogspot.com/2014/02/marbled-heart-crayons.html">heart crayons</a> we made the other day? Well here are the finished Valentines. I found free printable Valentines that your kids can color over at <a href="http://www.everydaygrace.ca/blog/last-minute-valentines-day-printables/">Everyday Grace</a>. I used my photo editing software to take off the to and from since we were putting them in bags along with a crayon for Charlotte's classmates to color. I forgot to change my settings from draft to best quality...oh well! I think they still look cute ;)<br />

I wasn't sure how they would melt but in the end they turned out fine. I thought it would be fun to make heart shaped crayons with Charlotte. She wants to give them to her classmates for Valentine's day :)<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-c_LaobbeRP0/UvrREvIPatI/AAAAAAAABks/ZryjNUOVifU/s1600/DSC_0833+blog.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-c_LaobbeRP0/UvrREvIPatI/AAAAAAAABks/ZryjNUOVifU/s1600/DSC_0833+blog.JPG" height="428" width="640" /></a></div>
I used a silicone ice cube tray that is oven safe up to 350 degrees. I got lucky and we actually had gotten them in at work for Valentine's day. I bought one right away! I ended up not chopping up the black and brown crayons. Charlotte and I thought the hearts would look better without them.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-BndA6AxPzzQ/UvrREyFLHlI/AAAAAAAABk0/JlEugZOgFbE/s1600/DSC_0883+blog.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-BndA6AxPzzQ/UvrREyFLHlI/AAAAAAAABk0/JlEugZOgFbE/s1600/DSC_0883+blog.JPG" height="428" title="DIY Heart Crayons" width="640" /></a></div>
At this point we preheated the toaster oven to 325 degrees. I have read online where others did theirs at 250 but my preschooler and myself wanted faster results...lol. We stuffed each heart with as many crayon pieces as we could fit and then popped it into the oven.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-wZvBAFnTWO4/UvrRE7JSY-I/AAAAAAAABkw/0q3PXErq9X0/s1600/DSC_0910+blog.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-wZvBAFnTWO4/UvrRE7JSY-I/AAAAAAAABkw/0q3PXErq9X0/s1600/DSC_0910+blog.JPG" height="428" width="640" /></a></div>
Once the crayons have just melted all the way then immediately pull them out of the oven. It took about 5 to 7 minutes for ours. Let them cool all the way undisturbed (this part was hard for Charlotte). Once they have hardened pop them out of their mold. If you want you could rub down the sharp edges on a piece of paper.<br />

For Charlotte's teachers we got them Starbucks gift cards. I asked my
Barista for latte cups to put the gift cards inside. She was so sweet
and even gave me some tissue paper to put inside.<br />
<br />
For the tags, I stamped "merry latte" and signed it for Charlotte. I used my brush markers to ink my letter stamps. This project was super fast and at most took me 10 minutes.<br />

I used Jelly Belly candy for the buttons on the gingerbread man sandwich. I used Wilton Sparkle Gel for the red and black.</div>
